Yes I tried turning off the wifi. My security is Kaspersky and I've tried turning that off along with Windows Defender with no luck. When I plug in the ethernet it just shows the little yellow "!" and says "Unidentified network, no internet."

I ran the network diagnostics troubleshooter - I hit change adapter options>diagnose. It runs the troubleshooter, tells me "One or more network protocols are missing on this computer," asks me to try repairs as admin, repeats the message. Detection details says "Windows sockets registry entries required for network connectivity are missing."

Yes, I went to the realtek website and downloaded the latest driver (2016), still no change. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and rolling it back.

I went to the link, ran the command prompt but I there's no default gateway listed so I'm not sure where to go from there.

Hello Alex,

We appreciate the time and effort you have put in to resolve the issue.

At this point, if you have the Windows 7 or 8/8.1 drivers for the device, you may check if installing the drivers for the ethernet adapters in compatibility mode helps to resolve the issue.

Follow the steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode.

1. Go to the location where you had saved your downloaded setup files of the drivers and right click, then select Properties.
2. Select Compatibility Tab.
3. Place a check mark next to Run this program in Compatibility mode and select the Windows 7/8/8.1 operating system

accordingly from the drop down list.
4. Let the driver to install and then check the functionality.

Hope the above information holds good to fix the issue this time. If you need further assistance, feel free to write to us again.

Thank you.

Thank you. Apparently the Realtek driver for Windows 10 (version 10.8.311.2016) doesn't work for any system. I uninstalled and deleted the files, then allowed Windows to scan for hardware changes and install a different driver. Now it's back to version 10.1.505.2015, but most forums say that version 9.1.401.2015 is the only one that works. I'm currently trying to go back to that, although I can't find the setup files and don't have the option to rollback the driver.
